learning site words..
I am proud to say Evan is doing well in Kindergarden..or, right where he should be, at least. Even though, I had a hard time accepting the whole "report card" thing..! But, I don't need a report card to see that my son is just awesome..totally just rocked this whole HF autism thing out the roof..!
I have said it before, and I'll say it again..he wasn't made average for a reason..!! Something great comes from it..and I'm learning how to walk with him and be the parent he needs me to be. Although, I admit, it's not a walk in the park..more like...like..there and back again by Bilbo Baggins...yes, I refer to my kids as hobbits..doesn't everyone?!! ;-)
Hey, at the moment, we are excited and a little fuzzy as parents to get Evan into reading. The Kindergarden class expects each child to learn to read (very beginner) by the end of the school year. So, we tell Evan that he can learn to read his books on his own..and that will allow him to stay up a little later with the lamp on..! (We are totally all about the best motivation...hey, it works!)
For the moment we are working on site words..and I've had a hard time getting him to be interested in learning them..
Let me just say..thank God for pinterest..really..I get some fantastic ideas from people far smarter than me...!
Here is one..a site word parking lot..so cool! 5 minutes of drawing, a bucket of cars and Evan really had fun driving the cars to the right words.
We've gotten other ideas as well..including Heidi's songs (DVD series in which she sings rather silly..somewhat annoying..site word songs. Works great for my kid that is a very visual learner.
The ryhming is coming along with him..and I am a happy mom today..!
