Well..autism or not?

Well..It was a debate between my husband and I whether our son has autism or not..believe it or not he is on the spectrum...meanwhile I've been thinking he isn't. You can't blame us for the confusion..it is not full blown autism. It is more off the spectrum..but because every child is so unique..it is more under the umbrella of the word..yet, he is still autistic irregardless. Just think of it this way..if we had to number from 1-30 where Evan was..he would be around 1-10...being the least severe..you can't tell. He has most of his issues in the behavioral area..and some fine motor skills. But, I will not bore you with details of his therapy. I will say how incredibly grateful I am to our insurance for covering all of it..and mostly to god for making him in such a unique way. Sometimes, I get sooo excited to thing of what he will use his differences for. I now believe it is not up to us to teach "special need" (technical term) children or adults..they are here to teach us!! You surround yourself with people who see the world differently..you realize how blind you really are. God is amazing..what did you think you knew about life anyways...lol!!

  1. You are so right when you look at it as something God will use as a gift for him. We have a patient whose son is on the autistic spectrum. He is one with that incredible memory and is fascinated by birds. He can name every one of them, recognize their songs and tell you anything you want to know about them. His plan-to one day be a ornithologist and study them for a living, using his autism to his advantage. You will learn so much from that little boy and the world he is leading you into.

  2. thanks for posting this Teresa..!! Yes, I am pretty sure the little boy has asperger's without ever having met him...! When they know all the information and are like little school teachers..that is typical of that type of autism. Evan is a little more typical of his peers...until he get's over-excited or over-tired..and then things start to spin out of control for him. Mostly, if his routine is off..like vacations from school, so we put him in summer school and try to keep him in the routine. Anyways, you might like the series parenthood..there is a little boy with aspergers on there...it's a good series that brings light to autism...and added drama...what can you expect from hollywood..right...lol!!!
    Hugs to you!!
