We aren't really house-hunting here (not yet), just driving around the area and looking at neighborhoods.
I am extremely drawn to some of the houses with large covered porches.
Yes..it must be the Southerner in me dying to come out..!!
I don't think I was trying to hide my Southern roots..but, I haven't really had a permanent Southern home in almost 12 years..so, it's not hard to imagine why.
Still, I will probably miss properly made ICED tea (sweetened..!!), wrap-around porches, home-grown vegetables that you have so much you give away to your friends, purple irises, azaleas, magnolia trees, cypress trees, the Red River Revel (arts and crafts festival), strawberry pies at Strawns, Southern Maid donuts (ok, you know I had to put that..), Ruston Peaches, properly made corn-bread, crawfish, people saying "i declare" and "ya'll" and "i'm fixin" with no reference to actual work, and sloppy rain...while watching it from your front porch!!
Yet, I have no humidity and a view of the mountains and a bazillion things to explore here..so, I can live without a few things..!!
And i will always have the movie "Steel Magnolias" as a good way to remember, too.
That freakin' Sally Fields..always makes me cry..no matter how much I will myself not to..I secretly check and see if she got Scott, too..!!
