I'm reading a book called "One thousand gifts" and it's got me thinking about small things to be thankful for. Since we are heading into that season, I'm thinking I have a few!!
So here are my top ten uncelebrated things..or things I don't always say out loud.
1. I'm thankful for the prayers my children pray every night..simple, candid, and sometimes funny..but I love it and I can't help thinking that maybe He is up there smiling, too..
2. My children's morning bed-head..just that we all had a peaceful night's rest in a world filled with chaos..
3. Those rare friends who appreciate the beauty of bird's nest's, caterpillars turning into butterflies, and baby giraffes being born..then take beautiful photos of the mysterious processes. So many people, like me, need a reminder of the fascination of nature.
4. Hand-made quilts..someone loved me enough to make it. And, I smile Every time I look at mine. I also have to resist the urge to buy all the ones from goodwill..beaten and worn..but, people don't do things like that anymore and it makes me thing of my Grandma. She sewed everything on her old singer sewing machine with the big wheel on it. She was very quirky and also very stern...always wondered what her life's story was, what made her that way? War, famine through the depression, loss...they went through so much in those days..
5. The beauty of taking a walk..never underestimate walks...with friends, with family, it is therapy for the soul.
6. Mr. Darcy's ability to love Elizabeth Bennett, despite her poor, crazy family...even in his high society love has no boundaries. And, Elizabeth Bennett's refusal to marry for money..!! (Yes, I know it's a fiction book...but what a great story!!) :)
7. The death of nature in the fall...and the re-birth in the spring..as if despite how dead and grim life can be...life and renewal are just around the corner..!! As if nature is trying to tell us something...
8. When the kids get under a blanket together with a flashlight and a book..
9. Snow sparkles when you look at it..isn't that amazing!!
10. Friends. New friends, old friends..but friends who smile when they think of you..I have quite a few who make me smile!!
Are these just little things to be thankful for...or do they all count together for big things?!! I'm thinking they all count..!!

Of course, I LOVE #3! I also smiled when I read through most of these and I am also smiling because I am thinking of you. I do that often, you know. I hope you enjoyed that first snow. We are enjoying the beautiful fall colors (and dreading tghe raking of leaves that it brings).
