It's not who we are..
Ever wondered what that thing inside of us is..that thing that just seems to work against everything we think we "ought to do"?
It's something inside of us, something that seems to have the better control of us.
We know what we ought to do..yet, we do what we want anyway.
We should apologize..but, we don't feel like it.
We should check in on them..but, they haven't been real nice lately.
We should forgive them..but, they don't deserve it.
On and on the list goes..where it stops..nobody knows..!
And there are many things that we try so hard to do and be, yet it doesn't seem to ever work.
I don't know if I've ever really understood what it was all about either, until I actually had to find myself wanting to be loved and known, fully. Wanting more than what people had to offer. Because it seems that everyone can hurt you, and it can be intentionally or unintentionally..but, at some point it will happen.
Yet..if I'm being honest the hardest part is acknowledging that it is "me" that can hurt others, either intentionally or unintentionally.
That's the rub, right?
It happens..and we just don't know what to do with ourselves when it does!!
Oh, just try to cut someone off on accident in traffic..and try not to be upset at them when they give you the finger..!
So, in my simplistic mind-frame..I offer you the opportunity to see it this way.
You can't fix yourself..your situation..or the people around you.
And grace is needed to cover this part about us all, that we cannot ever seem to fix or get right.
So, here's my best example for you.
It's a video clip from the movie "Blood Diamond".
This little boy was kidnapped and force into becoming part of another tribe of horrible and vicious people. He was forced onto drugs and forced to murder and pillage and God know's what else to all the surrounding villages. His Father has been looking for him and finally finds him.
Your Father in heaven is looking for you.
He put himself into a human body, to understand how hard it is to live in this world..amongst these people.
And it was his plan all along to go to the cross.
So, all I know to tell you about Christ..is that he has never condemned us..not even on our worst day. He has always started with telling you who you are and then reminds you of how you came to be..how you are loved..so, so much..!
And that "what you do"..is not "who you are".
It's the most powerful thing I've ever seen before..when I watch it this way.
I hope this is helpful..and makes sense to you at least..!! ;)
